Opposite to it there is the College de France; it was founded in 1530 as a school of classical languages. Here, the public lectures are conducted by the outstanding scholars.

In addition to the universities there are The Ecole Polytechnique , The Ecole des Mines de Paris and The Ecole de Management, it is very difficult to go to one of this universities, because of the tough competition. The fundamental background in the arts give you such public institutions of the higher education as the Conservatory and the Higher National School of Decorative Arts in Paris. There is also the Institute of France, it consists of five academies (or scientific societies), and the most famous is the French Academy.

First of all, in order to enrol in one of the French universities, you must have the completed secondary education or have BA in France. The higher and secondary education in France is free of charge for foreigners. In order to get a French university-level education, one of the basic requirements it is a good knowledge of the language. You can be trained in special courses.
