Paris is located in the centre of developed domestic railway network and can be easily reached by train from most of the European countries. The local train system is merged with the metro network and provides easy access to the Parisian suburbs and other cities in Ile de France. The trains within the city operate the same way as metro, the only difference is that they make fewer stops and are faster. The main stations provide luggage storage facilities for 72 hours maximum.
The most important station is Gare du Nord, from where high speed Thalys trains depart to Brussels, Antwerp, Rotterdam, The Hague and Amsterdam. Eurostar provides Paris-London train connection.
Gare de L'Est is situated east of la Gare du Nord within walking distance and linked by metro with Gare du Nord.
Gare Saint Lazare: situated in the North Western part of the city. From Gare Austerlitz, situated in 13th Arrondissement, the trains depart to the South-West of France, Spain and Portugal.
Gare Montparnasse: situated in the Southern part of the city across the Seine River, connected by direct metro line with the North station. From there many trains depart to the west of France and Atlantic shore (Brest).
Gare de Lyon is situated in the South Eastern corner of the city, with trains going to the South – Marseilles, Nice. Trains from Gare de Bercy depart towards Bourgogne.
