Distinctively Parisian sport events, such as Tour de France and Paris Marathon, involve thousands of participants. The final stage of Tour de France in July is a very spectacular event, attracting crowds of watchers. The voluminous Stade de France, St-Denis-la-Plaine is the grandiose venue for international football, built for World Cup tournament of 1998. Domestic football matches take place at the Parc des Princes and attract lots of fans.

Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy is a major venue for versatile competitions. The main horseracing events (the Prix de la République and the Grand Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe) take place in the Bois de Boulogne to the west of the city centre in October.

For those, who want to maintain training program, the option differ depending on the type of the activity. Several companies, such as Moving and Gymnasium, operate a chain of fitness centres, but they tend to be open for members only. Squash Montmartre, offering one-off sessions, has four courts, saunas, fitness equipment and a restaurant. Club Quartier Latin has squash, fitness and swimming facilities.

Golf Disneyland Paris, located east of Paris, has a 27-hole course, open all year round.  The underground Piscine Suzanne-Berlioux is very popular swimming centre, centrally located and moderately priced. Aquaboulevard has a chain of indoor and outdoor pools with numerous water attractions.

Tennis players are likely to face several options, each having its own peculiarities. To play on municipal courts, application for a Carte Paris-Tennis should be made at the Mairie (City Hall). Alternatively, the guests can just go to the sites and hope for the best. There exists a number of private clubs, characterized by relatively high standards and pretty high admission fees.  Forest Hill Tennis at Aquaboulevard is open daily and charges €23-€31 per visit in comparison with €6 at municipal courts.
