巴黎 法国 Public transportation

Public transportation

Metro is a quick and easy way to travel around the city, as well as the best value. The Paris metro has around 300 stations, their entrances marked by a big yellow “M”, and 16 lines. Each line indicated by the terminus station at each end.  Inside the trains and the platforms are detailed large-scale maps, with all the available connections to other parts of network. Maps of different shapes and sizes are available in the ticket offices and information centres of the Paris Convention and Visitors Bureau. The metro operates every day including public holidays from around 6am to 0.30am.

Travelling by bus offers convenient access to every spot as well as a sightseeing possibility. The bus network with its 59 routes perfectly matches and complements that of the metro. Special bus lanes, recently installed along the main transport lines, help to improve traffic situation. Buses operate from Monday to Saturday from 7am to 8.30pm or thereabouts, some until 0.30am, in particular those that begin at train stations or serve major metro and RER links, as well as the 3 circular PC routes. Half of the buses also runs on Sundays and public holidays.

Balabus is a special sightseeing route around the majority of the capital’s main sights, from east to west, from the Gare de Lyon to the Grande Arche de la Défense: Bastille, the Marais, Ile Saint Louis, Notre-Dame, the Louvre, Orsay, Invalides, the Eiffel Tower and the Champs-Elysées. It runs from April to September.

The network of suburban trains, the RER, provides connection between all the locations in Ile de France region. Within Paris it operates in more or less the same way as metro. If the train station is connected with metro, the travelers can use the same ticket and pass directly to the train from metro.
